I too have wondered about both of those strategies. I have been playing Warcraft III (not World of Warcraft) and I have tried to figure out which strategies work the best and I have come to the conclusion that there is not one set strategy to win everytime. You have to be dynamic. Intellegence gathering is very important in winning. You want to figure out how your opponent plays and what maneuvers will give you the upper hand. I can't imagine being the one to do this with real lives.
